eyes already shrinkwrapped in tears
over in the forums, people have already begun talking about the new life's so rad. and how can you blame them? there are new characters to discuss, new art to comment on, and of course, everyone is curious if you think corey is making the right decision to start the new comic.
but regardless of what YOU think, here is #2.. i've gotten quite a few compliments on what is being called "the new art style." the truth is, i'm just pushing myself further than i have before, and trying harder than before to make my characters seem real. (which, if you think about it, is ironic.) i want you all to know that i have big plans for these characters, big plans for this comic, and i haven't just been sitting here with my thumb up my ass. i've been planning, planning, planning, and now i am happier than ever to be back in the swing of things, glad to be back updating, just glad to be back.
and i have to tell you. i couldn't have done it without tod. as i mentioned the other day, i have someone new in my life, and he's very special to me. he also does comics, and you should go check out his stuff, too. he runs a company called young american comics and does a daily journal comic, too. it was previously in his livejournal but soon the entire archives will be over at the new site.
anyway, my eyes hurt and i have to do a journal comic tonight myself, so that's all i say for tonight. :D

baby.. take ecstacy with me....
forgot to post this in here the other day.. oops.
let me be the first to introduce you to the brand spankin' new life's so rad. when justin and i broke up, i didn't know what i wanted to do with the comic. i loved what i had done so far, and i didn't want to lose everything i'd gained with the comic. in fact, one of the reasons i didn't want to break up with him was because it would end the comic. for a while, i played with the idea of keeping the comic going, and just dropping the part of the comic that included our relationship.. but even in one or two comics, i realized i didn't want to draw him any more. that was amplified as he and i both got ourselves into new relationships.
the solution, it seemed, to me, was to take what i liked about the comic, and take the real life aspect out of it. i would flatten the characters that i already had, and just assign new names and faces. working with non-autobiographical representations of me, sarah, jack and justin would allow the comic to grow in new ways, and allow me to keep my sanity. as i started drawing characters and writing though, the characters took on lives of their own, and you'll only see hints of any of us in the finished product. however, it's still a comic about 4 indie rock kids who go to shows and hang out in diners and live in a house together.
there are a few things i'm not still sure of. i don't know what's going to happen to the street team, i don't know if i am going to continue the 'zines. we shall see. the new strip is going to be updated monday-wednesday-friday for the time being. if things start going really well, i may come back to 5 days a week, but i'm not going to push anything.
many of you have been reading my work since that fateful day, november 15th, 1999 -- when i put the first sit and spin up on the web. and as you and i both know, my work has been a public display of evolution. it has improved and improved, and i'm constantly feeling more and more sure of my talents as a writer/artist/comic-teer. (rest assured, i am not, however, feeling very sure of my talents as a linguist.)
so here it is. life's so rad has a new face. 4 new kids will be moving into rad house in the coming weeks, and i hope that you'll like them as much as i do. i have big plans for this strip, and i think you'll enjoy seeing what unfolds. i appreciate each and every one of you. please spread the word that life's so rad is back. new characters.. new adventures.. no holding back.

everyone needs an editor
hey look, a new LSR. yeah, this one's going to piss some people off. heh. seriously, i love greg. we used to be really close back when we both had jobs that enabled us to spend all day emailing eachother. even did a couple crossovers with him back when webcomics did crossovers. but he's just gotten too famous now.. can't return my emails and such. so i thought maybe this'd get his attention. hi greg. :D
so i'm going to maryland in one week (!) for the small press expo. i made some phone calls today, and, unlike water, it turns out that plane rides are not free. so do me a favor, and go pick up issue seven from the LSR store. seriously, it's only 2 bucks, and i've put a lot of work into it. it's really good, too! 14 pages of web-comic-y goodness, about corey sarah justin and jack going back in time to meet the beatles.
haven't gotten one of the zines yet? they're half zine half comic book. the first half is a full-length comic feature and it's not available here on the site. it's in comic book form, and the same good humor here in the regular strips gets mixed with an awesome, hilarity packed storyline in each issue. the second half of the zine is packed with articles and interviews and fun stuff. we do reports from each con we go to, and in our 'right here right now' section tell what's been going on in the real lives of the lsr crew. there are also ramen recipes, diy ideas and lots of other fun stuff. like music? we review what we hear, and there are interviews galore! hott interviews with hotter bands like okgo, the stereo, motion city soundtrack, the weakerthans, slow reader, and lots lots more. each zine is only 2 bucks, which is a steal for how much work goes into them. you're bound to love 'em in a very real and very carnal way.
issue seven is out now. you can also get issues 1-6 for just 10 bucks, which is like getting one issue absolutely free.
there is also all kinds of other great stuff in the store, so go check it out!
ps: if you've read the zines, leave a comment here letting people know what YOU thought of them. are they worth $2 to you?

ok, i FINALLY figured out what i was doing wrong, and Life's So Rad is FINALLY updated with Monday's strip. More are on the way, on no set schedule.
Now please tell 2 people on your buddy list.
and an email still wouldn't hurt.
and GO BUY ISSUE SEVEN, DAMMIT!

well, well, what do we have here?
a few items of business. if you're reading this, please take 2 minutes out of your day to tell 2 people that LSR has updated, and ask them to come visit the site and take a look through the archives if they haven't already.
i'm going to maryland to the small press expo in 2 weeks. i can't afford to go, honestly, but fate, instinct, god and other such things need me to be there. so i will go. this is the new me. if you can, donate. a buck would go further than you could imagine. or if you don't feel like donating, go buy something! we've got lots of great stuff in the store! including a very overdue ISSUE SEVEN!
if you have ordered something from the store in the past couple months and not received your order, don't panic. it will be on its way to you in the next few days. things had come to a standstill here for a while, but we are picking up the pace and getting things back in gear. and other cliches that mean we're getting back to business.
i'd love an email from you. even if i suck at replying.
i'm doing a journal comic now. it can be seen in my livejournal. this may or may not be it's permanent home. it needs a name.
now that you've read this far, go visit young american comics. rad industries made a friend.

LSR: cus anime is teh suck.
another day another update.
now if only that said another day another dollar. ;)
i need a new mouse, among other things. so you have to buy something today. if you don't buy something from the store, i expect an email explaining your perfectly good reason for not buying something. i also expect an explanation for why people say "perfectly good" because it's a terrible phrase.
seriously though. have you read issues 5 and 6? don't you wanna preorder a teeshirt? have you seen our new hairbands? they make great presents for your girlfriend. seriously! that's how i learned how to make them. justin got me one. and then i had sex with him, i'm pretty sure. i'm positive we had sex SOMETIME after he got me a hairband. so there you have it. buying a hairband for your girlfriend will get you sex.
i think i've said enough.

tuesdays are for sharing.
yay for another comic update!
we had to go to the laundry mat tonight and get all of our laundry done because our washing machine is broken. so this comic was partially drawn there. i'm sure you wanted to know that.
we're headed off to get justin's car towed in a few short hours, so sleep may not be found tonight.
not much else to say, except i'm low on sleep, and high on isketch... grah. like crack, it is.
hey, go buy some stuff! you don't have to have a credit card to do so! go pick out stuff and mail us a nice little letter that says what you want, with some greenbacks thrown in there, and we'll get you your stuff. bet you didn't know you could do that!
2 tshirts have been preordered. 18 more to go before we can actually have them in the store! order your first edition LSR teeshirt today!

you'll be sure to check out an important update from me, there, too.
also, please visit the brand new rad industries storefront.
i have little else to say, probably because i haven't slept tonight. but that's ok. i will get many things done today. oh yes.

i might mention,
the boards have been down for a considerable amount of time. Friday was a little touch and go on accessing our server, and now it's pretty much impossible.
i've contacted our host, but they probably won't get to it until tomorrow (Tuesday), due to weekend/holiday stuff.
sorry for the inconveniences. please come back to the boards when they're back up. *nods*

whee, fun fun fun. another update.
unfortunately, issue #7 is slowgoing, but i work an afternoon shift tomorrow, which means i should get to work on it.
there is some bonus art in forums go see, and while you're there, post and stuff.
if i get five comics up this week, how many of you will donate five bucks? i could really use it to get issue seven printed. anyone? anyone? bueller?
the postal service is good, and if you haven't checked them out yet, do so sooooon.

doo dee doo.
so there's another one. yes it really happened. sigh.
i'm slaving over issue seven right now, trying desperately to get it out before novi con this weekend.
there's a whole bunch of stuff i wanna talk about, but i'm tired. so another day. like tomorrow! yes.
oh, go read this comic, which is so amazingly awesome that it immediately runs circles around anything that you previously thought was awesome.

rock rock rock.
so i'm changing the way the news is updated on here, for various reasons. i will update manually, but copy & paste each update to the livejournal. this gives me instant archives, plus, people who check the comic via their livejournal will be able to do so. YAY COMPROMISE.
i've been staring at today's comic for the last hour and a half, and i have no idea if it's funny or well colored. you could let me know what you think. yeah. also, that's a mallmonkeys cameo there, so if any of you don't already read it, go start now. sarah doesn't like it, but i do. kthx.
just saw slowreader with ozma yesterday and saturday. (yes, two days. we're big dorks.) and they were simply fucking amazing. and i hate using that word to describe shows. if they're coming to your town, go see them. and tell rory and gabe (and ian, glub glub) that the life's so rad crew said hi. <3
it's the beginning of the month, and i'd like to get back up to a respectable place on that top 150 comics list, so please start voting again. you can vote once daily. yes.
we spoke at the st. joseph county library (south bend, indiana) on saturday, and it was fun. a 13 year old asked me if i'd met tycho and gabe. hehe, i got to name drop, webcomic style. aww yeah. but yeah, it was fun, and i gave out a few books and sold a few. yay.
that's all for now. i work until 10 tonight, but i will hopefully get a chance to put a comic up when i get home. *crosses fingers* thanks to everyone for their patience lately.

4.) i have laundry downstairs that i really need to tend to.

wowie. an update.
to all of the boys(?) who said they have a crush on me in the last update heh, well, thanks.
i have purple hair and i got a haircut, but i have decided to make comic corey have blue hair for the duration of forever. or at least for the time being. this way, i can make merchandise that doesn't expire in a month or three. with big ideas for bigger investment items in my head, like teeshirts & vinyl stickers, i wanted to solidify my characters.
by the way, what would you like to see on a teeshirt or vinyl sticker?
we got the six feet under deeveedee a few nights ago, and we've been watching the STUFF out of it. it ROCKS. to-ally worth $89.99 ('specially if it's justin's money.)
the new job has been going AWESOMELY. i'm working very hard to schedule my time to be most efficient. i am currently working just about full time (actually, i worked 5 hours of overtime last week) but i'm trying really hard to schedule at least 2 hours of LSR time in each day. for the time being, i will continue updating 1 comic a day, as long as i can. when i have a day off (which should be 2 times each week) i will do an extra comic. hopefully, this will allow me to catch up.
i need pencils. could you donate a buck or two?
oh, and please let everyone on your buddy list know that LSR is back. if you've got one of those newfangled internet journal dealies, you could TOTALLY say something in that.
i'm updating again. DAMN that feels good.

a very overdue update.
first of all, i am sorry for not updating sooner.
as most of you speculated, i got a job. it's a temporary position opening a new jo-ann fabrics store. however, it was a temporary position with a chance at a permanent position, so i've been working very hard. i've been putting in 40+ hours, working hard, and then coming home and sleeping so i could do it again. i miss doing the comic, of course, but i am trying so hard to get a permanent position that it hasn't always been on my mind.
what will happen if i do? they're only offering part time positions, so i'll have time for the comic. even if it was 40 hours, it's much less work to stand at a register and punch some buttons, or stand at a table and cut some fabric, then it is to carry things, put up shelves, unload merchandise, etc.
but wait, you say, 8 hours to work, 8 hours to sleep. what about the other 8 hours? aside from not wanting to touch a computer (seriously. which is weird for me.) i've been using that time to give some intensive care to someone i forget about sometimes. justin. we've been working on force feeding our relationship with some of that magic stuff, and it's been paying off, to say the least. things are really great lately, and i feel better about our relationship than i have in a year.
so to summarize, corey has been working her ass off to get a job and to maintain the happiness in her relationship. remember, job = money. money + happy justin = happy corey. happy corey = comics.
they will be here soon. and you will get 365 this year.
